The Firebird Wish Wall
Tell us what you'd love to see at Fairmount — a new event, a program, or just what's working and what isn't. Post anonymously, or heart the wishes you agree with.
Not sure where to start? Finish one of these:
Names are never required. Posts may be moderated for kindness. Wishes about the school day, curriculum, or campus go to school administration — either way, your voice is heard.
Curious what came out of last year's wishes?
Here's every wish we received and what we're doing about it. Some we can act on directly, some are decisions made by our school administration, and some we simply hold close as we plan. No matter which, your voice was heard and it matters. ๐
โ Wishes we're already acting on this year (9)
Volunteer opportunities that take 30 minutes or less
We love this. We're working on offering more bite-sized volunteer roles you can complete in 30 minutes or less, so busy families can jump in when it works for them.
Post volunteer opportunities online, like the WatchDOGS sign-ups
Yes! We're moving toward posting volunteer opportunities online so you can see what's available and sign up around your own schedule.
More low-key family events
You'll be happy to hear this is already in the works. We're planning more relaxed, low-pressure family events this year alongside our bigger ones.
More events throughout the year — and an events committee
We hear you, and we agree. We're expanding our lineup of family events this year, and an events committee is exactly the kind of parent energy we'd love to grow. If this speaks to you, we'd welcome your help making it happen.
Events at different times of day and different days of the week
Great point. As we build this year's calendar, we're intentionally varying event times and days so more families can find something that fits their schedule.
Low-key ways to connect with other parents outside of school
Building community is a big focus for us this year. We're rolling out “Communities” on our Membership Toolkit site so classes and grade levels can connect, plus adding more casual ways to gather.
Make it easier to get in contact with other parents
This is coming! Our new “Communities” feature on Membership Toolkit will make it easier for parents in the same class or grade level to connect and communicate directly.
Stream PTA meetings or publish the minutes afterward
Absolutely. We're looking into options for streaming our PTA meetings in a way that still protects members' privacy and any sensitive discussion. Either way, we're committed to posting meeting minutes to the website after every meeting, so members can log in and catch up on anything they missed.
A fall fundraiser with more ways for families to take part
Thank you for this. We're exploring ways to add components to our fall fundraiser so more families can join in and support the school, whatever their interests. We're glad you enjoy the silent auction!
๐ซ Wishes we've shared with school administration (6)
These touch on the school day, curriculum, or campus operations, which are set by school administration rather than the PTA. We've passed your feedback along so your voices are heard.
More freedom and a relaxed atmosphere at lunchtime
This was one of the most-supported wishes on the wall, and we understand. Lunchroom procedures — including seating and volume — are set by the school, so we've shared this feedback directly with administration.
More outside time for the older kids
This wish received a lot of hearts, and we hear you. Decisions about recess and the school day are made by school administration, and we've shared this feedback with them on your behalf.
Inside recess on rainy days instead of quiet screen time
We hear you on giving kids a real outlet on indoor days. Recess and schedule decisions rest with the school, so we've passed this feedback to administration.
More emphasis on kindness, and tools for navigating conflict
Thank you for caring about how our kids treat one another. Curriculum and behavior policies are handled by the school, and we've shared this wish with administration. Where the PTA can support family-facing resources, we're glad to help.
More awareness of invisible disabilities in the school environment
Thank you for raising this — greater understanding and empathy benefit every student. We've shared this with school administration, and the PTA welcomes opportunities to support awareness efforts for our families.
Someone to direct traffic at drop-off and pick-up
Safety at arrival and dismissal matters to all of us. Traffic and parking logistics fall under the school and district — coordinated with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office — so we've shared this concern with administration.
๐ Wishes we're taking to heart (4)
How else can I support the teachers and my child's class?
We love that you're asking! A great first step is checking in with your child's teacher about their classroom needs, and watching for PTA volunteer calls throughout the year. Thank you for wanting to help.
Stagger class parties by grade so parents can attend all of them
Thank you — this is a thoughtful idea for families with more than one child at Fairmount. Party timing is coordinated with teachers, and we've shared your suggestion so it can be considered.
Have enrichments start and end on the same dates each quarter
Thanks for flagging this. Enrichment scheduling depends on our providers' availability, but we'll keep this in mind as we plan and aim to make sessions as consistent as we can.
Wishing more families were involved and showed up
We feel this one too. So much love goes into planning our community nights, and we'd be thrilled to see more families join us. Every wish on this wall tells us you care — and showing up is one of the most powerful ways to strengthen our school community.
Have a new wish for Fairmount? Add it to this year's Wish Wall at the top of this page. We're listening. ๐
